Wellington Zoo

I put on my pith helmet, some sturdy hiking boots and some walk shorts and I headed off on my trusty steed, the number 10 Bus.

It wasn't the best day for an adventure at the zoo, the weather was far from tropical, so a lot of the animals were hiding in their cages under the heat lamps, but I did get to see some fine specimens. The paramount being this crazy monkey that looks like its his personal mission to kill me. (I've put in a close up to give you the full effect).

I’m not sure what part actually scares me the most. Perhaps it is the intense look in its icy blue eyes, or it could be the flared nostrils (flared nostrils always scare me, no matter who is doing the flaring). But whatever it is, it gives me the heeby jeebies, and I think its fair to say that I won’t be going near his enclosure any time soon!

There was quite an abundance of primate exhibits at the zoo, and apart from Mr Creepy there, I think the winner would have to be the Tamarin, he looks like a monkey/lion half breed. Not as cool as a Liger (if you don’t know what this is watch Napoleon Dynamite) but a lot cuter.

The only other photo that I took of interest was of the sun bear, who quite appropriately, was sunning himself. He turned towards me and gave me such an imperious look that I took a picture. And when I looked at the picture later, the only thing to do to it, was to deface it. I know its silly and childish but here is the result.

My trip to our nations capital

Instead of going home like I had planned, I stayed a couple of days in Wellington and then went up to Mt Maunganui with Melissa. So I hung around Wellington and did the usual stuff that one does in Wellington, went shopping, ate lots of international food, went to the zoo (which has its very own blog entry) and loitered around the parliament buildings.
And I just have to say, the downtown backpackers in Wellington has the best shower out of all the hostels I have stayed at. I would even go as far to venture that it has the BEST shower in the world. It was like needles of fire stabbing me. Sounds painful but its actually quite good, especially when the hostel beds are so hard. Why pay for a swiss massage when the shower can do it for you!

And the shower has a fantastic view of the Beehive. This morning when I was in the shower, looking directly out the window and hoping that no one in the Beehive had a pair of binoculars trained on me I took time to appreciate the view.
So should you go to wellington and need to stay at a hostel, I recommend this one.

I'm leaving on an intercity bus...

What a wonderful exciting time it has been in BULLS (the only place in the world where you get milk from Bulls - thanks dad). BUT every exciting time must finish at some point and that point has come.
But Bulls is a wonderful town full of puns (see right), and if you really want to you can get more info from

Everynight I have been allowed to cook whatever I want for dinner, and everyday I had unlimited access to the internet, and Sandi's... I mean MY puppy.

Yesterday, Sandi and I went to a women's lifestyle expo. We took turns having all kinds of free deals, I went to an iridologist. Thats someone who tells you about the condition of your body by looking at your iris. Unfortunatly, she told me my liver was in bad condition (damn nomihodais) and I should probably do something about that. She also told me I was nervous... which I'm not... unless there is an earthquake or a visible spider. And then I become wary...

goodbye bulls.

My sister is weird...

So I'm staying at my sisters house, and have nothing to do all day, other than play with the dog and watch TV. So I was looking around her house for a book, and I was a little disturbed, here are some of the books she has in her house, see if you can spot the pattern.
  • The Mammoth Book of Unsolved Crime
  • Women who kill
  • The worlds worst Murders
  • An Almanac of Murder
  • The bone woman
  • Agents of Mayhem
  • The Coroner
  • Sole Survivor
  • Hannibal (2 copies!)
  • Diagnosis Dead
  • Deja Dead
  • Suddenly Gone

Normally I like to read before going to bed, ideally something with elves (like legolas) or magic, so that I can have nice dreams. But when I stay at Sandi's house and read books I end up having dreams about slaughter houses and maniac clowns.

which direction...

I spent the day hanging out in the sun with Brick... he's so cute, but why does he have to eat his own shit??
The time I didn't spend with Brick was spent doing what I usually did before a puppy came along, looking for a job.

So I was thinking, I have many options, the current ones are this:
  1. try to get a basic job (e.g. office administration, sales)
  2. try to get a special job (e.g. Travel agent, tour guide) without training
  3. Get a qualification that will enable one of the above

points one and two are well underway, I have applied for several jobs.

And I have found a couple of courses that are interesting, adventure leadership (can you see me in a pith helmet with a whip ala Indiana Jones), hospitality and tourism, health and fitness (ditch the whip and helmet for a leotard and leg warmers).

Any encouragement or advice welcome

An Exciting Day...

Sandi got a puppy! And because she is at work all day and I am at home, he will secretly be MINE!! They called him Brick, after the Anchorman character, and he is a german shepard bull mastiff cross.

He has already peed on the carpet twice, but because he is only my dog secretly, I don't have to clean it up. Just like with Jessica.

The other exciting thing was that there was an earthquake a few minutes ago. But I am over it now. (I was scared at first).

AND for those of you who know my online shopping obsession... Victoria's secret has a online sale! AND I found a website where I can buy snowboarding stuff, and they ship internationally! AND it snowed in the mountains overnight!

All in all a very exciting day for me. Think I might go to bed now.

what to write...

Well, I think I may have figured this out, but the only thing is to find something to write about... maybe I could keep a running total of all the things I eat today. So far its a coffee and a piece of toast... with marmite. Stay tuned for more exciting details!!

Actually, a blog is a very good way of staying in touch with people without actually staying in touch. So if you don't really want to be in touch with me, but you feel guilty because we said we would stay in touch, feel free to check this out now and then. You don't even have to leave a comment, you can just ghost in and out and I will never know you were there. (how many times did I write touch?)

But If i did know you were there I would certainly say

"thanks for stopping by [San Diego], and stay classy"

Welcome to the world of blogging

You all must know that the best way to learn something is not to research and plan, but to jump right in. So I am doing that. I don't really know how this blog thing works, but we'll soon find out!
